The Vega Baja has been the subject of detailed study on different occasions. These have shown archaeological remains from the Roman and Visigothic periods. During urban growth at the start of this century, two things were done:
1. Archaeological surveys and prospection in the area were completed with over 250 test pits being dug, over 90% of which have confirmed the existence of archaeological remains.
2. Excavations by successful bidder construction companies on building plots in the area, and by the firm responsible for overall development, were carried out. These have shown that the site is archaeologically significant and indicate that the Visigothic capital city is located here.
The attached map shows the zones that have been declared Cultural Assets (BIC: Bien de Interés Cultural), and the most significant excavations done.
