Archaeological activity undertaken in the Vega Baja archaeological compound will adhere to criteria for scientific and systematic intervention for the whole site.
The criteria, methodology and procedures will be those applied in all archaeological excavations undertaken by the Regional Ministry for Culture in Castile-La Mancha - although the additional factor of having an archaeological site embedded in an urban zone brings particular challenges.
Toletum Visigodo in coordination with the Regional Ministry for Culture will be responsible for the management team, currently Lauro Olmo, Ricardo Izquierdo Benito and Ramón Villa. They will also select the plots to be excavated in each of the proposed phases of archaeology.
The four year General Plan essentially consists of:
- tasks carried out gradually over the whole year; these will depend on the availability of plots, the importance (assessed on the basis of excavations already done) of archaeological remains, and the speed of progress
- specific operations that may be necessary; either following earlier intervention in particular areas or as part of planned intervention in limited areas requiring especial archaeological attention
