The Vega Baja Museum, Interpretation Centre and Research Centre for the Historical Heritage

This should be a unique building that sets the standard for the group of Toledo museums dealing with the historical period up to the start of the High Middle Ages. It will show how the Vega Baja fits into this long archaeological period, and it will link in with the Site Museum and Research Centre, which together with it will comprise a whole. It could be:

- a Museum and Interpretation Centre for the Vega Baja, giving information about the archaeological excavations and research centre activities, and having exhibition facilities for the public with interactive possibilities. The Interpretation Centre will retain a certain independence but as part of the Museum, it will provide a link between the Museum and the archaeological site and other existing points of historical interest in the Vega Baja.

- a cultural space to energize this sector of the city, reflecting various periods of Toledo’s history that are less well represented in the historic city as we know it today.

- a Research Centre focusing on the Visigothic period and a multidisciplinary centre for training and research dealing with all areas of historical heritage. As well as conducting research specific to Visigothic times, the institution should be willing to participate in international debate on new action strategies being developed in heritage following the emergence of new technologies. The Centre will therefore have two large scientific divisions: one for Visigothic studies and the other for new technology in heritage conservation and education.
