1. START OF THE FACTORY
1775 Approval of Sabatini’s design for the Royal Sword Factory.
1777 Acquisition of land to build the Sword Factory.
1780 Completion of construction work.
1782 Full production starts in the Royal Sword Factory.
1807 Construction of the foundry with wind furnaces.
1808 French troops occupy the factory from 14 December 1808 to August 1812.
1823 New sacking by the French forces 100,000 Sons of St Louis.
1831 Construction of a new hardening furnace.
1831 Commissioning of cartridge production workshops.
1832 Sheet metal workshop set up for bending, welding and grinding.
2. AMMUNITION MANUFACTURE
1900/20 Construction of workshops for manufacture and storage of ammunitions.
1909 La Isla power station is set up.
1912 Workers’ canteen is built.
1914 Azumel power station is set up.
1915 Construction of workshop to produce surgical equipment.
1918 Construction starts on the Barrio Obrero (blue-collar district).
1924 Falls of Santa Ana harnessed as power source.
3. ARTILLERY MANUFACTURE
1922 Construction of fuze moulding and assembly workshops.
1927 Spanish and Swedish monarchs visit the Arms Factory.
1941 Production of IR fuzes model 1940.
1958 Production of PDM fuzes 51 A5.
1974 Production of PDM fuze 557.
1960/80 Construction of workshops for 9 mm NATO ammunition.
4. THE UNIVERSITY CITY
1985/98 Talks between the Toledo City Council and Ministry of Defence.
1998 Agreement reached. Changes made to the General Urban Development Plan for Toledo
1998 May 1998 to January 1999: completion of the first phase of factory redevelopment for university technology campus.
1999 5 February: grand opening of the Arms Factory university technology campus.
1999/08 Redevelopment of 35,000 square metres of industrial space.
